As you may recall, I kicked off the year by participating in the Book Challenge by Erin, version 8.0, which lasted from January 1 until April 30. And now, I’m excited to be participating in version 9.0 of the same challenge because I really love reading challenges. Here are the details:

Top Ten Tuesday - Books to Read by the Beach

June 19, 2018 by Megan 2 Comments

Happy Tuesday, everyone! It’s time for another edition of Top Ten Tuesday, a literary list with a new bookish topic every week. This week’s topic is of the summery variety, which is lovely since summer is (officially) just around the corner. Here in Michigan it’s been hot and humid here for a little while now, especially over the past weekend, so I am more than ready to hit the beach! If you’re planning your summer vacation, you might want to consider bringing some of these books with you: Top Ten Books to Read by the Beach

Show Us Your Books - June 2018

June 12, 2018 by Megan 32 Comments

It’s the second Tuesday of the month, and you know what that means; it’s time for another edition of Show Us Your Books! It feels like forever since I did one of these, though it’s really been just a month. Time seems to be going more quickly than usual. Anyone else have that feeling? Either way, I was able to finish 8 books since May’s SUYB, and I’m already working on my 9th. This has been a great reading month - all 3- and 4-star reads!

Top Ten Tuesday - Bookish Worlds I Don't Want to Live In

May 29, 2018 by Megan 10 Comments

Happy Tuesday, everyone! It’s time for another edition of Top Ten Tuesday, a literary list with a new bookish topic every week. Before I jump in, though, I wanted to announce some exciting news - I’ve been nominated for the Unique Blogger Award over at Ginger Mom Reads! If you regularly visit my blog, you’ll know that I combine my passions for reading and cooking in a very unique way, pairing every book I review with a recipe it inspires. A lot of time and effort goes into each and every post, and I would really appreciate your vote! (Voting is open until Friday, June 1.)

Now, onto this week’s topic: Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In. I loved brainstorming for this week’s list. There are lots of bookish worlds that are warm and inviting (I’m looking at you, Hogwarts and Green Gables) but there are maybe even more that are a bit off-putting and terrifying. It was an interesting exercise to dive into those a little more deeply.

I tend to enjoy dystopias and this topic lends itself nicely to those fictional worlds, weighing the pros and the cons. You’ll see many of them on my list, and those that aren’t tend to come from within the science fiction genre. I think all of these worlds give us something to think about - and in the case of many dystopias, things to watch out for before they become reality in our own world. One thing I’m sure most of us can agree on: they’re all pretty uninviting. [Read more...] about Top Ten Tuesday - Bookish Worlds I Don't Want to Live In

Show Us Your Books - May 2018

May 8, 2018 by Megan 13 Comments

It’s the second Tuesday of the month, and you know what that means; it’s time for another edition of Show Us Your Books! Over this past month, I’ve read a different mix of books than I usually do - half fiction and half memoirs, one of which was a graphic novel (which I never read because I thought I didn’t like them). With the exception of the one book I didn’t finish - likely a case of wrong book, wrong time - I liked everything. Yay for a good month of reading!

Top Ten Tuesday - Book Palate Cleansers

April 17, 2018 by Megan 16 Comments

Happy Tuesday, everyone! It’s time for another edition of Top Ten Tuesday, a literary list with a new bookish topic every week. This Tuesday’s topic is a freebie, which means I get to do whatever I want! This week I’m going to focus on some of my favorite palate cleansers.

And while this means something in the food world (my other favorite topic), I’m actually referring to those in the book world. Book palate cleansers can mean be used for various reasons. You just finished an intense read and are looking for something easy or fun. You’ve been having trouble getting into everything you pick up and need a story that will draw you in. You’re a little stressed in real life and want a book that is the exact opposite, an escape.
