Well, hello again! It’s been a while. What’s new with me, you ask? I’m a mom now, for one thing. For another, I definitely don’t have as much time to read. It’s a big adjustment all around. But I’m excited to be back, and though I probably won’t be able to post as often (at least for now), I am going to make every effort to post regularly again.
Before we jump into books, I’m sure you’re curious: our little boy, Henry, was born almost a week early on December 7. It was a whirlwind of a day, and we were so excited to meet him at the end! Here we are at the hospital, the day after he was born:
We’ve been home now for almost 2 months — wow, time is really flying by! — and we’re all still figuring things out. (There’s something new every day!) He recently started smiling though, and that definitely makes all the hard work worth it ☺️
Obviously, my TBR is going to be a bit less ambitious than it was in the past. (In fact, I’ve reduced my annual reading goal by about half, just until I can get back in the groove.) But I’m still hoping to tackle a few books this month, at least. Let’s get to it!
The theme of October’s to-be-read list is going to be library books. I currently have 7 books checked out from the library with 2 more waiting to be picked up, and deadlines are looming! I am very lucky in that I usually don’t have to wait very long for new releases (maybe because I request them so far in advance?), but with all the amazing new books coming out this time of year, they’re piling up on each other fast.
Here’s a look at what I’ll be (hopefully) devouring this month… wish me luck in my race to beat the due dates!
I’ve got another month of “required reading” ahead of me: a couple of blog tours, evermore book clubs and lots due back at the library. I’ve had a really productive last week of reading — mostly quick reads — but it’s got me thinking anything is possible. Bring on all the books!
Here’s a look at what I’m hoping to tackle in September:
How can it be August already? I’ve got a lot of books to dive into this month — between book clubs and library loans and blog tours, it’s important for me to stay organized and stay on top of my reading! Here’s what I’m planning to read this month:
It’s been a little while since I participated in Top Ten Tuesday, but I’m excited to be back and I’m super excited about this topic! This week is a freebie, and since I missed May 28th’s topic, I’m doing a mini-throwback to that one: My 10 Favorite Books Released in the Last 10 Years. It’s one I was really excited to dive into.
We’re supposed to be limiting it to one book per year, and honestly, I did my best, but for two of the years I just couldn’t decide, so I’m going with a tie. As a bonus, you get two extra wonderful books this week! Without further ado, here are some of my favorite books published within the past decade:
Hello again! For those of you who are avid followers of my blog, you’ve probably noticed I’ve been missing these past few months… and you would be right. My posts have been few and far between, and there are a couple reasons for that:
I went through a period of AMAZING books and then abruptly hit a whole lot of lackluster reads. I started slogging through these 3-star books, missing the glory days of back-to-back-to-back 4- and 5-star reads. And it’s hard to blog about books you’re not interested in, especially when they don’t have any food mentions (which are sort of integral to most of my posts…)
I found out I’m pregnant. Basically right after SUYB April (the last one I posted), my husband and I got the news and it was a lot to take in. We’re both super excited — and, at this point, have had some time to process and tell people — but in the beginning, I could not concentrate on books. There were a bajillion thoughts running through my head constantly. I was always tired (I kept falling asleep with a book in my lap… or on my face), and I was often nauseated, which made it hard to read (or cook). When I did dive into a book, it was usually a pregnancy-related one, and since I had to keep it all a secret, I could hardly post about those reads. But now that the cat’s out of the bag, here’s what our little announcement looked like:
And, and now that I’m safely in the second trimester, I’m starting to feel much better and am getting back into reading (and cooking). So yay! Without further ado, let’s get into a long-awaited Show Us Your Books!
Welcome to June! I haven’t posted in a while (with the exception of my recent blog tour post), and I’m hoping with this post, I’m getting back into the swing of things. I’ve begun recovering from my recent book slump, and I’ve got a few good ones lined up — head back tomorrow for what is sure to be a delicious ice cream recipe, just in time for summer!
I’m looking forward to diving into some good books this month, hopefully enjoyed in the backyard sunshine 🙂
A new month, and hopefully warmer weather is upon us. I’m still wearing sweaters, which is not okay in May. I’m also in a reading slump, so I’m optimistic that this month will help me kick that and get going on lots and lots of books again.
I’m excited to report that I had another pretty wonderful reading month. I finally checked off a few ARCs that were releasing soon; I participated in a blog tour; I read a couple of my most-anticipated books of the year; and I read not one, but two 5-star books! Considering I usually read only a few 5-star books a year (and I’m already at three), that’s amazing. I was blown away by some of the amazing writing this month.
Wow, I am ready for spring! We’ve had a few warm days here and there but the forecast says we’re getting snow on Thursday, and I’m OVER it. I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready to lay in the warm sun (or under a shady tree) and read, read, read. Winter, go away!
